Yes, indeedy. They're the very same quality as the ones you buy in the store. In fact, they're virtually indistinguishable, although sometimes the words "Columbia House" may be printed on the package or on the DVD itself. These will play in any DVD player or any computer (with a DVD drive) in the USA and Canada (Region 1).
In some cases, Columbia House is authorized by the studios to make their own DVDs of certain titles, but the DVD - and the retail packaging - is identical to those purchased elsewhere at much higher prices. Columbia House is the USA's largest direct distributor of DVDs and home video... they're not going to mess with you.
Rest assured: you will get every bonus extra, every collectible booklet, every commentary track and interview and every special feature that normally comes with a particular movie or TV show. The fact that you choose to save money and buy from the Columbia House DVD Club makes no difference whatsoever.

5 DVDs for 49 cents each... that really is the best deal!
Your only "obligation" is to buy five more DVDs at regular club prices within the next two years. (We breakdown the average cost for those ten DVDs, including shipping charges, on another page. If you missed it, click here.)

Columbia House currently has over 5,300 DVD titles to choose from with over 2,000 selling for less than $22. But you can always pre-order almost every new title for only $19.95 each. And club members are eligible for other deep discounts on DVDs: almost every month, Columbia House runs some kind of special offer, like their recent "Get 50% off all DVDs for every one you buy at regular price!" or their very popular "Get unlimited DVDs at $19.95 each!"

Columbia House is not offering free shipping at the present time.
In the past, Columbia House did indeed experiment with a "free shipping" offer. But what they chose to do instead is to up the ante on their DVD deal. They used to offer only four DVD's for 49 cents, now they offer five DVD's for 49 cents. The fact is that the savings you now receive on the "extra" DVD ($20 or more) is far greater than money you would save if they offered "free shipping."
DVD 250 always features the latest and most current Columbia House offers. If Columbia House decides to further reduce or eliminate the shipping fee on their introductory package, we will let you know right here on the pages of DVD 250, so you can take advantage of the offer.

That depends on what you mean by "back out of the deal." So the answer is yes... and no.
Your Columbia House introductory shipment is sent on a 10-day no-risk trial basis. If you are not completely satisfied, you can cancel your membership by returning the package (at their expense) within 10 days and Columbia House will credit your account.
If, by backing out of the deal you mean you want to somehow wiggle out of your commitment to buy five more DVDs over the course of the next two years... uh, no, sorry, you can't do that.
You gotta buy five more DVDs... after all, you promised. (Columbia House is smart, but they ain't crazy. They'll give you a good deal and let you buy the cheapest new release DVDs online, but only if you stick around to buy a few more at slightly higher prices.)
If you do decide to remain a member of the Columbia House DVD Club (most people do), you can cancel anytime after completing your membership agreement. Many people do exactly that and then return to DVD 250 to join Columbia House again, thereby maximizing their savings on the further purchase of new release DVDs.

Well, yes, they will. But only by mail (e-mail, too, if you request it.) It's all very low key and you're in total control all the time.
You'll receive a free Columbia House DVD Club magazine about once every four weeks. If you want the featured title, what they call like to call the "Director's Selection," do nothing... it'll be sent automatically after a specified waiting period.
If you want something else, or more selections from which to choose, or nothing at all, just visit columbiahouse.com, their state-of-the-art customer-focused website, or mail the response card so they receive it by the date specified.
Columbia House will also keep reminding you that you have five (or four or three or however many) DVDs left to buy to fulfill your commitment and, gosh, did you notice that you only have 12 (or 10 or 5 or however many) months left to do so? These reminders will become more insistent as time goes on, finally resulting in a request to pre-pay your additional selections, if in fact you haven't bought additional DVDs by the time your 2 year period is up.
But most people have no trouble choosing their additional DVDs from the available selection at colombiahouse.com.

Columbia House does charge sales tax, where "applicable," which essentially means states in which Columbia House does business. This also means most people do not pay sales tax on their DVD purchases.

No, absolutely not. The savings are built-in; no savings codes or discount coupons are required. Click through any of the Columbia House DVD Club links here at DVD 250 and you'll be eligible for the famous Columbia House 5 DVDs for 49 cents deal, as described here.
You'll also be able to buy a 6th DVD for only $14.95 and you'll even be able to take advantage of a special offer on a 7th DVD for only $9.95. (The sixth DVD reduces your purchase commitment down to four DVDs over two years... the seventh DVD is just a very good deal... a DVD for ten bucks!)

The Columbia House DVD Club does not offer X-Rated, "mature," "adult" or "porn" movies.
All other ratings (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17) are offered.
Columbia House has recently entered into an agreeement with Playboy to acquire distribution rights to 150 "softcore" sex movies. it is expected to begin marketing these separately from the Columbia House DVD Club, along with other adult DVD's from other producers, under a new club to be known as "Hush." This DVD purchase club is expected to begin in late January, 2005, but as you might expect, it'll be very low key. Columbia House is not eager to be known as a "pornography" merchant, so - for the moment - everyone is keeping quiet about "Hush."
(To buy or rent hardcore adult DVD movies online, we recommend Wanted List and Sugar DVD.)

As a matter of fact, we do. Check out the main page right here at DVD 250 if you want DVD discounts and more DVD buying clubs.
